Ultrafine Xtreme Black & White Film ISO 400

Harman technology did not give there Ilford branded films away for house branding of other companies.
But they did that with their Kentmere films:

- AgfaPhoto APX 100 and 400
- Rollei RPX 100 and 400
- Fotoimpex CHM 100 and 400
- Oriental 100 and 400
(- and probably also these Ultrafine films)
are all just Kentmere 100 and 400 in different boxes and mostly at higher prices.

Unfortunately, Ultrafine eXtreme 400 (bulk 100-foot, 120, and 36-exposure) has been out of stock for a few months now. If what Jan indicates is true - and I have no reason to doubt - you might try out Kentmere 400 in the meantime. Not quite as cheap as UX400, but better than nothing... 😉

This database indicates that it is very likely Ultrafine eXtreme is the same as Kentmere. And Kentmere is for sure RPX400... Macodirect and Fotoimpex have both. I have bough a couple of bulk rolls (100ft) of RPX400 really cheap (2.5$ per roll of 36 if converted) not that long time ago...

Certain films might be cheaper for EU residents compared to US, and vice-versa. At B&H, Kentmere 400 is $59.95 USD in bulk, which is not bad. By contrast, Rollei RPX400 is $89.99 USD, through special order with a 2-4 week expected availability. 😱

Yes, 59$ is a very good price. You never know how it works with the distribution/pricing strategy of those re-branded films. Luckily we can find some good deals locally on both sides of the ocean.

A bulk roll of Ultrafine eXtreme 400 used to be $39.95 USD, which is practically a steal. Prices have gone up slightly to a still bargain price of $44.95, but it is out of stock and has been for a few months now. 🙁

May I just ask - is the Ultrafine Extreme 100 in 120 the same as Rollei RPX 100 in 120? Similarly, is the Ultrafine Extreme 400 in 120 the same as Rollei RPX 400 in 120?

Thank you, albireo, appreciate the kind words. I've used this film almost exclusively for the past year, and I really enjoy the results. Unfortunately, I have not tried any of the Ultrafine eXtreme 100 stocks, either in 120 or 35mm, or the RPX 400 in 120. So I can't speak from any personal experience to compare. However, HHPhoto thinks they are probably the same film. Here's a quote from Post #22 upthread. I hope that helps!

Can't answer you directly, but I've had excellent results with UFE 100 in 120 format, rated at 100 ISO. I have two rolls of 400 still to shoot.

Thanks a lot, the results are pretty similar to a 1+31, but I do switch lenses a lot so it's hard to tell the difference. I like this film a lot because it's cheap and dries flat.

I didn't agitate for the whole 16 minutes. I agitate the first minute and every 5min I come back and agitate for like 30 sec.

You stuff looks amazing, what scanner did you use?

Thanks! I agree, I love the results from this film - cheap and dries flat are just bonus for me! 😀

I ditched scanning a long time ago, and digitize using a Sony NEX-5T, an older APS-C mirrorless digicam. The Sony is mounted on a Leica BEOON copy stand, and I use a EL-Nikkor 50mm f/2.8 enlarging lens as my taking lens. But that's not the topic of this thread, let's see some more Ultrafine eXtreme 400 shots!
