I grew up in ranching country (some of the last) in southern California and was (literally) surrounded by eucalyptus, both the hundred year old juggernauts growing next to the defunct irrigation canal bordering the property and the extensive windbreak my father planted around the house. To me, eucalyptus are home. If we want to start talking about invasive species in California we'll be here all day.
