Ultron SLII 40 f2 v Nokton 40 f1.4

I realize most people wont own both lenses... but I was wondering if anyone has seen any comparisons between these two? Tried a few searches, and obviously both are highly regarded, but couldn't seem to find any direct comparisons. I would particularly be interested in bokeh and centre sharpness. Any thoughts? I know we aren't exactly taking apples to apples but interesting I think nontheless. Thank you.

I have both but never compare, cause they are used in different bodies.

The focus ring is very different between the two though. The Nokton is very stiff, and the Ultron very smooth.

In regard to the focus ring, my Nokton started stiff but lightened up with use (particularly when I spent a few weeks shooting in the heat of Sri Lanka).

Both lenses are exceptional value but they are designed for different purposes, not just the differences of rangefinder and SLR. The Nokton was designed to emulate the classic fast rangefinder lenses like the pre-asph Summilux although I think it easy surpasses that lens in edge definition and flare control. The Ultron is an all out modern lens employing the latest in coating and ASPH designs. This lens rivals the 35mm Summicron ASPH in performance. Centre and Edge are better then the Nokton, but some may not like how clinical it is. I would have liked to see this lens in M mount. (Maybe I should add that to the wish list thread? LOL)

That's really interesting. Thanks for the info. The only real negative thing I have heard about the Ultron is its "below par" bokeh. I don't mind the Nokton bokeh, so I wonder if the Ultron is inferior in this regard, or it's really just down to personal preference? I shouldn't be just a 'gear freak' but my reasoning is whether to expand the F* Nikon line or go fully into the Bessa's 🙂 I would use a 40mm almost 80% of the time.
