This photo (series) is totally underrated because it's the single most enjoyable series I've seen this whole weekend.
Some guy on Flickr
I don't know who the guy is but I found the series very masterful. Good stream too.
Is that other thread filled with haters or something? I didn't read it coz it seemed like some stupid banter going on about how some photographers are good or not? Hahaha!

Posts on the "Overrated Photographers" thread outnumber those on the "Underrated" by 10:1. Does this mean we are 10 times more likely to want to take someone down a notch rather than give props?
I'll suggest Bill Dane as possibly under- (rated, known, appreciated, something)...http://www.billdane.com/pictures.html
I first saw his work in the mid seventies book,The Snapshot Aperture, and have been looking at it ever since. He was a painter in the sixties who took up photography after loosing all of his work in a studio fire. I'm pretty sure he had a show at MOMA in the early seventies. It was rumored (or at least joked) that MOMA had more Danes in its collection that Atgets. Due to the volume of self-made photo postcards he sent to Szarkowski. The postcards were his stock-in-trade. Still are probably. He has a couple of books out too, but should be better known, I think.
Cheers,
Gary

Bradford Washburn: flat-out AMAZING, yet so little known.

As to whether photographers are over-rated or under-rated... I really do not care. I like looking at photos and try to never let the photographer get in the way of learning. I have learned from Ansel Adams and Annie Leibovitz and Helmut Newton who are considered over-rated. I have learned from photographers like Nenad Bojic and W. Ray Hill and Chris Heilman who will probably never get rated.

My hero... Joe McNally
Sorry I disagree, he's quite the poster boy for Nikon, and pushes auto exposure. Don't know any Pros that do that in the field.

He's married to a former Nikon employee. The people in the NY NPS office are personal friends of his. I think it's a give and take with the two. The NPS folks are really nice people. And, I'm sure McNally is too. So.. there ya go.. just pals helping each other out. I must confess, I've used both AF, and, .......AE too. I still know an f-stop from a hole in the ground. I actually own a light/flash meter, and I'm not afraid to use it..

Vicky, Terrorkitten's work has a hint of an Eggleston influence about it. A talented Photographer who's work I've much admired over the years is Richard Misrach. Here's an example of his work
...
Hiya,
Thanks for the heads up I look forward to exploring his work, a cursory glance looks very interesting. Thanks I love to find new photographers, it's all part of that education and delight of looking at good pictures!

THIS thread is fantastic!
The 'other' thread I only appreciated after I googled Jousef Koudelka (who I had not heard of prior) - The first image that came up absolutely floored me, amazing!

Saul Leiter.....not too well known but I adore his early color work. The colors and tones are sumptuous.
