I started doing color prints in these drums (8x10 and 11x14) and the 8x10 drum leaks a little. Is there anything that can be done to prevent this, like adding something behind the gasket? These drums are hard to find and I've never seen replacement gaskets.
Are other brand drums better?
I hand roll the drums as they move horizontally on the roller machine, causing more leakage.

They did make replacement gaskets at the time, and I think your best bet is to find some appropriate material and make some new ones. I remember thinking then that the hard material didn't seem like the best thing to use for the job, but probably is was the least likely thing they had then to soak up chemicals. Maybe there's a better material now. http://mcmaster.com is my go-to source for odd materials for odd jobs, if you are up to cutting out your own gaskets.
