Hello all. I'm about to push the button on finally getting round to picking up a LTM copy of the 50/2, was going to get a black belt from Japan in good condition but came across this one with a black rim. Has anyone come across this before, is it some sort of mod or prototype?

I once had a black rim lens where the front filter ring was missing. Just like the black rim lens shown at this auction site:
Pair of Nippon Kogaku Nikkor H.C 5cm 50mm f/2 Lenses

It wouldn’t take an filters or screw in hoods because of it. Turns out the filter ring of this lens is basically just a step up ring from 39mm (I think) to 42mm.

So I got an aluminium step up ring, thinned it with a dremel tool to fit onto the thread behind the aperture ring and used that as a makeshift filter ring.

Maybe this is what happened with the chrome-only lens shown in this thread. Just a black painted replacement of the lost filter ring?

Or maybe it’s a rare original version of this lens….

My source (Complete Nikon System by Peter Braczko) states that the three versions of the LTM 50/2 were made in Chrome, All Black, and Chrome with a Black Aperture Ring, all with a 40.5 filter ring. Could be someone replaced the filter ring on yours with one from a black version as that may have been the only part they had available.
