i wonder if there is an 'i hate ups site'?

There never will be. Why? UPS owns the domain name, IHATEUPS.COM.

UPS, US Postal Service and FedEx Ground are all fine here. How could UPS not locate City Hall?
easy, sometimes that cannot even find the correct freaking TRUCK to put the package on.

They went to a new computer tracking system and the drivers were not allowed to take a mis-directed package off their truck and put it on the correect truck EVEN if the trucks sat next to each other in the loading area.

I watched my package go out 3 days in a row and then be listed as not able to delliver. I had been calling and got a supervisor that admited that a driver could be fired if he put the package on the correct truck.

I finally called the corporate office the Prez. got his Assistant who aimed me in the right direction for my rath....it arrived the next day and they refunded ME the money even though I did not actually pay them.

SO what as BROWN done for YOU!

When I was buying lots of FSU gear, after the third time my USPS guy delivered it (very polite, knocked on the door each time), he said, "I see all this stuff comes from Russia. Did you used to be a communist?"

I just use USPS for everything. Usually almost as fast, much cheaper and certainly more reliable.

Hmm... if I wasn't broke, UPSHorrorStories.com isn't squatted on by them... 😱

Almost as fast? I sent a lens to Hawaii, from NY, priority mail to an RFF member. She got it in 3 days. Shipped, insured, and tracked, it was $8. What would UPS charge to get it from NY to HI in 3 days? Or, conversely, how far would 8 bucks get the package? I dread when someone ships me a package via UPS from California as I know I won't get it for two weeks or more. Do they still use the pony express? Ugh. True, USPS is a non-profit government organization (the only one that works, albeit), but UPS needs to diversify itself from other carriers to make me consider using them. Start by changing their color. It reminds me of something... unpleasant.

Hmm...

Now this thread is getting me worried. I have a camera coming with UPS in the next few days.

*fingers crossed*

If you are religious, a few prayers wouldn't hurt right about now...

I haven't had nearly as bad the experiences as some here, but I did once have them dump a package on the stoop and leave w/out a signature. 1000 rounds of 7.62 NATO surplus rifle ammunition that US Federal law requires an adult signature for... :bang: :bang: :bang:

No, unless someone explicitly requests something else and pays the difference, anything I send now will always go out by USPS. They may have been the (legitimate!) butt of many jokes over the years (US Snail comes to mind) but these days I trust them far more than any of the courier companies I've dealt with. Competition is a good thing... the post office has realized that; the couriers haven't... 😉

UPS seems to be on a corporate self-destruct mission.

It gained its "good reputation" decades ago while structured as a "cooperative" enterprise. It was "employee-owned" via a "trust" such that it generated strong worker loyalties that made the post office (USPS) untenable in package delivery. Basically they all but killed the USPS parcel post service.

It's not that life for a UPS employee was great moneywise - but they had a sense of ownership - even if they did not have a direct equity stake.

More recently, they reorganized the enteprise as a shareholder company and went "public". Nothing wrong with that, if you're starting out a new enterprise (e.g. how FedEx started), but it was a seismic paradigm shift for the UPS employees - who essentially are no longer as benefited by the company's success as they once were.

Meanwhile, the good old USPS has re-vamped its employee relationship and entered into a strategic partnership arrangement with FedEx for priority mail services.

So, nowadays, who are you going to use for your packages? 😉

Well, prayers will definitely be said. I never knew that UPS has so many problems.

I received a post card from UPS once telling me that the address on my package was invalid so I had to call an 800 number by a certain date or it would go back. When I called the lady, she said I could pick it up at the local UPS office. I asked her how come the post card was able to arrive to the invalid address but the UPS driver couldn't find it. She was stumped. I responded, maybe the Post Office is just a bit smarter than the UPS driver - she laughed. Still had to go pick up my package because they wouldn't put it on the truck again. But what kind of system sends a post card to an address that the driver couldn't find to tell the occupant that they couldn't find the house. I mean how many of those actually make it - or maybe a lot do because the drivers are a bit clueless. Sorry for the rant.
