Urgent advise from the Canonistas needed!

PS: Remy, typed this befor I received your post - I will check that option, as I've already got 40.5mm filters, anyway.
 
The more common 40.5mm threaded accessories are too big to fit in the Canon 40mm thread. Also, I think the thread pitch on the 40.5mm is coarser.

However, the spring loaded 40.5mm Nikkor caps that came with Nikkorex 8mm movie cameras and Nikkor enlarging lenses will fit on the Canon 40mm threads.

I just hunted down a Canon 40mm to Series VI (6) adapter. That covers all of the bases since there is even a Series VI screw-in aluminum lens cap.

You may be thinking of up-sizing a 39mm screw-in with aluminum foil. That might work.

Brian, you're right, of course! I was completely confused. Filters get screwed in from the inside, not screwed on from the outside! :bang: :bang:

I have an extra Walz yellow filter (2x or 1 stop filter factor) in 40mm that I'll sell you for the cost of postage & a promise that you'll upload a new picture for your avatar! ;-)

@ last, I can look @ threads without being scared! :p Your filter is on its way, too. I should mention that it's a "slim-line" filter, meaning it doesn't have front threads for to take aq screw-in hood, but works fine w/the official Canon clamp-on hood (S-42).

Yahoo,

the mailman just brought the Canon 50/1.8 - I think the seller forgot to pack the cleaning marks, could not find them anywhere ;) - the glass looks 'minty', only the black paint on the focussing ring is slightly worn; since my Russian 42mm slip-on hood from 'alex-photo' is a perfect fit, and since Chris 'furcafe's yellow filter also just arrived, I'm all set for testing (if I didn't have two exams this week...)

You have to love sellers like that. The ones that take out the brought flashlights, hold it at angles, and "slight cleaning marks". Midwest Photo Exchange was like that for my Nikkor 5cm F1.4. I couldn't find them either.
 
BTW, just tried to identify the lens at the Canon Museum, but it's not there - all of the 50/1.8 there are listed with 9 aperture blades, mine only has 8...?
