using a 1.25X adapter on the M9

I just tried for the first time to use a Leica 1.25X with the M9, but the view is blurry to my eyes. Is there a diopter adjustment on it? I tried it with the 35mm Lux. Maybe it is meant for 45mm or longer?

If you're talking about a viewfinder magnifying optic, it will be the same regardless of which focal length lens you fit to the camera. I have an aftermarket one that is quite good quality, but I can only use it with 50mm and longer frame lines.

There's no diopter adjustment on mine.

I can’t speak for the M9, but I find the magnified view provided by the1.25X finder very helpful when focusing my MP. I use it with my 50mm lenses and my 75mm Summilux. It shouldn’t be blurry. No idea why yours is.

The middle ring rotates freely. Is this the same in your piece?

The middle ring of mine is where the strap attaches (via a small lug) and rotates freely so as not to intefere with the camera or viewfinder. It has no affect on the diopter rating.

Jaapv suggests that the magnifier may need a screw-in diopter. I never knew this. I’m guessing my eyesight is such that the magnifier is OK as delivered from the factory.

This one from Japan Exposures (used to be Megaperls (sp?)) has diopter adjustment.

I have the x1.15 version which gives me approximately x1 with my 0.85 M6TTL. Without the diopter adjustment it would be useless to me, as I need something like -1.0 and at my age (almost zero accommodation) the fine adjustment gives me better viewing than the standard -1.0 Leica screw in diopter that I use when not using the magnifier.

I'm not entirely convinced that the claimed diopter adjustment range is as much as claimed, but I've no way to test it. For my eyes I'm well within the range though.

Raid, do you use a diopter normally?
 
I have the 1.25x viewfinder magnifier and mine is also blurry. It is blurry to my sight whether I am using my eyeglasses or not. I thought mine was faulty so I sent it to Leica NJ but they said it was fine. I have always assumed that my bifocals were interfering but perhaps that is not what is occurring.
 
I'm using the Leica 1.25x magnifier on a M9-P and find no issues - it is sharp with only minimal contrast reduction.
It's great with 50mm and 75mm lenses.
The 35mm frames are useable, on the periphery of my vision.
 
I have a Leica 1.25x viewfinder magnifier on my 0.85 MP - clear & sharp No blurriness - the 50mm and 75mm frame-lines are better (for my eyes) the 90mm VFframe-lines really stands out on it's own. My 1.25x has actually been on the camera for about 6 years without taking it off. But I will say the 35mm frame-lines are impossible to see without rolling the eyeball all over the eyepiece. Then again 50mm is my widest lens - so for me and my poorer eyesight the 1.25x is great as it won't affect the lens I use. The mid ring is the attachment to a fine wire/cord but it's never used now. There is no dioptre adjustment. Also clearly with such a large viewfinder 1.25x on a 0.85 viewfinder the then 1.06 is slightly larger than life but great for 2 eye open operation and very fast to focus.

Mine is a 1.25x that I bought from "Phottix" in Hong Kong. Very nice quality and reasonably priced; I don't recall who recommended it. I don't think it's available any more.

I used it a good bit with 50, 90, and 135 mm lenses on the M9. I've tried it on the M-P, but using the EVF instead does a better job for critical focus when needed.

So not only Raid but also Pioneer see through their Leica magnifiers a blurry image. This just doesn't make sense to me. Raid, if you take the magnifier off the camera can you see clearly through it, like a miniature telescope (obviously not a high magnification)? I think you should be able to do so.

Aha! There is something that you and I are not fully understanding regarding the blurry view. One "test" is to use several different lenses that give you sharp images wide open. Then try using the 1.25X on the camera.
