I agree with those who believe that using the camera you love may actually make you a better photographer b/c you feel good when you use it, you feel passionate, and what you as the fotog bring into the foto is as important as what you are shooting. Also, Leicas tend to hold their value after years, if not decades. Its like buying gold, but the interest you accrue is the pleasure of using it. I also believe there will always be someone who can fix it. I mean, the IIIf is how old? Its made it this far along.....all the classic cameras can still get repaired b/c someone will learn how to make the parts if they are no longer mass-produced. Classic cameras like Hassys and Rollei TLRs, still have a large following like Leica owners, and this interest alone drives the industry....so, Buy the damn Leica!

Yay! Cameras! 🙈🙉🙊┌( ಠ_ಠ)┘ [◉"]
...I'm not picky: almost any Leica will do. I ESPECIALLY like the IIIf...
...So I'm posting this looking for some feedback from others who've lusted after a Leica for decades (as I have but haven't pulled the trigger yet), and then finally went ahead and bought one...
Leica thread mounts are fun! The IIIf is nice.
I've had my M6 for over twenty years now but caught the Barnack bug a few years ago and spent a lot of time researching the various models and lenses and settled on a mint IIIf RD w/Summitar.
It made me go out and buy a SOOPD hood for the Summitar, a SBOOI BL finder, and a Luigi half-case and strap. What did it do for you?
Now I know how those old ladies feel when they buy accessories for their little poodles
Enjoy life!
Go for it!
