Hi there, i would like to scan b&w and colour negs with vuescan and the V500, but 'colour neg' doesn't come up at all in the options. i've done some searches and haven't been able to find a solution to this problem. Does anyone know how to make transparencies come up in 'media'. also note that the 'mode' option doesn't come up at all.

Have you expanded the options? I think there's a 'More options' and 'Less options' (or Show/Hide options) toggle. Also, I think Vuescan has an 'auto' mode.

Have you tried FULLY unplugging the connection from the lid of the scanner, re-inserting it, then rebooting the scanner, then restarting VueScan? That often solves the problem.

Really stupid here, didn't connect the pin plug from the top section to the bottom rear. once i reinstalled the firmware the vuescan option for film now comes up.
