UV/IR Filters on a Film Leica M Body?

I searched all over the net and I couldnt find any definite answer to this.

I love my M8 and I recently got an M6. I don't want to put filters on and off going from the UV/IR and etc switching from film to digital. Does it effect the film with colors and ?

What's everyone's thoughts?

I was just wondering that myself, WRT shooting B&W film in my M4-P/M2.

OK with B+W, not so good with colour. After trying it, I found it worth the effort to remove IR flters when shooting colour film.

Aside from the slight cyan tint that affects color, the UV/IR cut filters I've used (B+W 486 & Leica) aren't as well-coated as standard UV or P filters, & more vulnerable to flare.

Great to know this too, only shoot BW on my M2 so now I can happily leave my filters on when I swap lenses from the M8. Happy info. 🙂

I sold my M8 because I disliked the filters (the reflection off them is brighter than a torch light ) and I got really depressed having to take them off and put them on every time I change or switch lenses or film. On many occasions I take two cameras with me and found I often had to rethink my lens swapping, or take the bloody filter off. Finally it got the best of me and I sold the M8.

I have been wondering the same thing myself. i am shooting a M8.2 an a M2 and have missed some shots because I have been swapping filters. Not longer. I shooting only B&W in the M2.

There is no real problem with B&W, unless you encounter flare. The Heliopan and B&W filters are well coated for flare, the Leica filters a bit less. I would say the flare problem is on the same level as a normal UV filter.
