V35 Focomat Light Mixing Boxes

It is my understanding that there are two versions of light mixing boxes for the V35 Focomat ....

What would be the differences between the older version and the newer when it comes to printing B&W ?

Do the Modules come come to play in anyway when using the different light boxes ?

I waited along time to get one of these and just want to make sure I am making the right choice here ....


This enlarger I am considering has the Color head with the older version light mixing box .
Everything appears to work fine ,has the proper lens and negative carrier
Also is there a price difference between the two versions to be considered ?

If you're printing B&W only, try and find a Multigrade module for the V35; it makes life very easy. If you're feeling very rich, then buy the Heiland Splitgrade module instead.

For those who may be interested ....

I spoke with a tech from Leica .He said the differences is in how the brightness of the light is spread across the negative ..from center to the edge of the negative .The 2nd version spreads the light more evenly across the negative .

The second version light box is still available from Leica for around $200.00

Good to know it is still available, but the price is a little high. I bought a Focomat a month ago, also with the old lightbox assembly (a piece of styrofoam with diffusers). I have not tried it yet, but since many people say that the edges of a print should be slightly darker than the center for viewing/aesthetic reasons, perhaps the older lightbox is even better. Would be interesting to compare prints.
