V700: why is it now giving me a black surround to my scans?

My V700 never did this before, but it has started with both 120 and 35mm scans.

Instead of scanning slides of 6x7, it insists on scanning at 76.5x61.9mm, leading to each slide having a black surround where the scanner scans in the plastic holder as well as the slide.

It is very inconvenient as I then have to crop in post-processing.

If I try to change the document size dimensions, it does exactly the same thing and scans the black surround anyway.

Anyone have this? Anyone know how to get it to scan the exact size of the slide as it used to?

If you use EpsonScan:
proffesional mode>configuration>preview>thumbnail cropping area: set to medium or small
