Hello fellow cleanly RFF:ers!

After a week of letting my apartment turn into what might best be described as a pigsty with temporary sleeping and eating arrangements I finally decided to clean it tonight. So there I was, vacuuming a counter top from breadcrumbs and other things that should really just be dealt with immediatly, when I lifted a newspaper, and underneath was that roll of Kodak Ektar I had been looking for, before I had a chance to react, the thing was sucked into the vacuum cleaner with literally, quite a big bang.

So my question now is, is it worth the discomfort of popping up the vacuum cleaners bag and retrieve my film? As I remember, the wrapper was halfway open. Will this mean that my film has been contaminated with all sorts of crap and be difficult to develop without issues?

Any help and advice appreciated, especially in regards to housekeeping.

If it happened to me I would open the bag in the dark, blow as much dust off the film as possible, re-roll if required, wrap it in some kitchen foil and have it developed and scanned to CD. If there are any spots on the negative you may be able to fix with something like photoshop on the scanned images.

Dig it out and clean it up then take it to Walmart and have them develop and scan it. If the results are dirty and affected by light leaks, storm back into Walmart and kick up a fuss "What kind of a chicken-h-t outfit is this?", for example. Then take you complimentary replacement film home 😀

Well, today I managed to get a key in there, so I was forced to open the bag anyway.... The partially opened wrapper of the unexposed film was all dusty, but it doesn't look like anything has contaminated the actual roll too badly. Will give the roll a gentle vacuum on a low setting before I consider using it, and advise the lab when I turn it in.

Rather a hilarious story, although I admit it could be not that funny for the OP.

Reminds me of a thread here where someone drank 🙂eek🙂 discarded fixer from an orange juice carton that his wife mistakenly had put back in the fridge. General opinion was that it could not hurt that much, but also should not be turned into a habit 😀😀😀
