No- the back-focus is 20mm off. It will focus on extreme close-ups only.
Okay- it is "possible", but you have to add a large negative element in front of the lens and use a Nikon L-F adapter. I did this once with a Leica lens "just to do it". Completely impractical.

On the other hand the Nikkor 35mm f/1.8 is inexpensive, and people seem to like it.

Except on a D7000 the focal length is effectively 50mm.
I'd use it on a D700 though... if I ever get my hands on one :bang::bang::bang:

I'm thinking of a D7000 with the AF-S NIKKOR 24mm f/1.4G ED (which would equal more or less a 36mm). Did you consider this option ? Just curious to know if I'm the only one thinking about it...

Except the 35mm f1.8 is a DX lens and the D700 would automatically toss in the sensor crop making it a 52mm in full frame terms...

I had a D7000 for a week and I popped a CV Ultron 40/2 AIS lens on it. It rocked. A nice kit if you want a big rig (at least big to me).
