I have been looking for this lens for quite some time. I used to use this focal length on my OM1 all the time, but that was a 40m F/2.

I have been waiting for B&H to get this lens and I have been checking adorama on a daily basis. Last night, I was looking through KEH, and came across a EX+ VC 40mm F/1.4, with caps and hood for just under $400. I jumped on it as fast as I could. I was not sure if I was fast enough, however, I just got home, and got the email from UPS. It should be here on Friday. I ordered the VC 40mm external finder as well, and that is scheduled to arrive today.

A VC 35mm F/1.2, VC 40mm F/1.4, and a Leica 50mm F/1.4 makes for a decent fast lens, low light kit. I plan to use the 40mm F/1.4 Nokton, and the Leica 90mm Cron as my daily walk around 2 lens kit.

Can anyone tell me how flare resistant the 40mm Nokton is???

I have the SC version, and I've never had any issues with flare (and I don't use a hood on it) - I believe that the lens is not especially prone to flare.

Enjoy it!

No problems with flare, even shooting into lighting. Although I use the hood and a filter.

Actually, that's a lie - I did get flare but that was down to grease on the filter.

Why would you not buy form our sponsers? Let me see buy from big corporations who could care less about your business or buy from one of our sponsers who provide cheaper prices, better service and the pride of supporting small business. Just a thought. Good luck with the lens.

I would love to purchase items from camera quest, but I don't have a paypal account, and I'm not particularly fond of faxing or mailing my credit card information.

I find sites like B&H to be very easy to use, and I normally get the items the very next day even when I pay for regular ground delivery.

As for them caring less about my business??? That is a good thing right? If they could care less that means they do care some. How much, I'm not sure, but I have never had a bad experience yet.

I've been dealing with Stephen for several years. He is flexible and honest. You could send him your order via email and then call him with your credit card number. Try him, his prices are great and he stands behind everything he sells very very well.

How do you get your credit card information to B&H without sending it over the Internet? You are implicitly trusting both their SSL encryption and the guys at B&H doing the credit card processing and you're hoping that neither their nor your computer is infected by spyware of some sort.

At some point it becomes a matter of trust either way. You could also just phone CameraQuest and tell him your credit card number.

Wait are you using the 40mm on your ikon?

If so, you do know that the 35mm framelines are practically an exact match for the vc 40... :) You dont really need the external vf.

Well, I will also use the 40mm on my M3 DS and M6TTL. Does the 40mm bring up 50mm Frames?

Unmodified, yes. It's no problem to chip off a bit from the lug so that it brings up the 35mm frame, though.

I have been doing it over the internet for several years and I have never had a problem doing it that way. I just don't feel comfortable faxing my credit card information. In fact, I prefer not to fax any of my personal information at all.

CameraQuest may be very honest. I'm uncomfortable doing business that way. I prefer to walk in a store and buy it direct if possible.

I have been viewing items on cameraquest for years but the faxing my creditcard info is what stopped me from ever placing an order, and he has a few items I want.

Actually, I'm going to send the 40mm external viewfinder back. I do have a 35mm external viewfinder, so I can use that instead of modifying the lens. Thanks for the heads-up
