Let me know if you know.

I figure that will give me deeper shadows in a very tonal scene, but will leave things OK for scanning.

Am I right? I'm being optimistic.

I guess what I want to know is whether shooting it at 160 is HEAVY underexposure or just mild. I really don't know slide film that well. I know the 50 can be very tempermental.

I haven't shot slide in a while, but when I did - I always developed it myself. The 100 most likely will have a wider tolerance than the 50. Push/pull sacraficed the details, but I would say that they will be minimal to moderate at 160.
I would be interested in the results; could you post an example when you have a scan?

Yes. There will be lots of examples very soon. Watch the thread "Pass around scanner test : one negative, many scanners"
