velvia setting...

I like the Velvia setting on my Fuji cameras (X10 and X100). Sure, it can be an exaggeration of reality, but a photograph is an abstraction of reality to begin with, not the reality itself. So what's wrong with a little bold color?

Velvia, like Kodachrome, was a bold color interpretation. There wasn't a lot of dynamic range, there was just bold color. Same with the Fuji model. If you don't like those films, that's fine. Many do. Personally, I like anything that isn't a precise, exact representation of reality. If I wanted that, I'd shoot an iPhone. Viva la differance!

IMO velvia isn't the best preset for any BW conversion, even if you do want crushed shadows. You're better off just working with more normal jpegs and managing shadows etc with the curve tool.

i'm thinking that i might use velvia setting when i want to convert to b&w instead of the b&w settings...

Tried that after reading your post.
Its absolutly great! I like it much more as the B&W settings from the camera.

However it messes up seriously the purples and reds for sunsets and sunrises, so I never use it in those situations. I was an avid velvia film shooter, and of course I would use it for everything but portraits.
