Vertical alignment in rangefinder spot

Hi all,

I just got a R3A from ebay. It is my first rangefinder. I've noticed that when I focus, the movable image in the rangefinder slides horizontaly. From what I understand, when the movable image coincides with the fixed image, the lens is properly focused. Horizaontally, this is no problem. I've noticed that the movable image is sometimes vertically offset, where the vertical offset doesn't change as I try to focus.

Is this vertical offset supposed to happen? If so, does it indicate anything? If not, does this mean I have a damaged camera?

Always try to keep your eye in the middle of the viewfinder.

Thanks for the tips. I will play with adjusting the view finder and keeping my eye centered.
