Very late Leica M240 review

I would be very wary of a $3000 M240. It's either been abused or is a scam. Just did a search and none came up at that price. Overall used Leica prices are low in the U.S. . Not sure why but I think the 12% savings is having an effect downstream.
 
I bought mine second hand with the intent to use it and not really looking at resell value. I recon I will squeeze as many shots I can out of it. My worry with it (any digital camera really) is that it will just stop working one day and it will be very expensive or impossible to repair.

Speaking of user reviews of the camera. Are you using it in rain and wet environments? I know its weather sealed but does that go for the lenses also? ( contemporary Leica lenses)

Just wondering how much I need to worry on a rainy day?

I haven't seen any M typ 240 bodies for $3000 that weren't damaged, 'suspicious', or otherwise not worth buying.

Stop worrying about money. The value of a camera is in what you do with it, not what it costs or is valued at. You bought the M typ 240 presumably because you felt it was a great camera and worth the money. It is. Just use it and its value will become comfortable to you.

I like these concepts! A lot more enjoyable than fretting over depreciating value :)
 
+1 for this as well. It's about the enjoyment you get from it. Depreciation is a given.

I bought a Canon 5DmkII when it first came out, and now it's worth a fraction what I paid for it. But did I get enough use out of it? You bet!

I expect the M 240 will slowly slide in price as Leica improves their product line. But I still love using my M 240. It's the best camera I've ever owned for inspiring me to just get out and shoot.

I'm not fretting about it, I'm just using the camera :)

To answer the question about weather sealing, I have used mine in the rain several times now and I've not had any issues arise. I also don't have any contemporary Leica glass, I do have an old elmarit 28, but my other lenses are zeiss, voigtlander or Konica. No problems in that regard.

You mean it's full of archaic quirks LOL

Nothing obsolete about the images it can make with M lenses. That goes for all digital Ms in my mind. I still am impressed with the M8
 
Leica M, type 240 one year old, with still one year warranty can be found where I live, in shops of serious dealer around 4000 EUR, body only of course. Which maybe not so good for owners, but it starts to be interesting for someone, like me who already has a few M lenses and would like to give a try.
