Vidom brightness

Hello all,
I had a short question for the collective wisdom here:
Just purchased a really nice VIDOM black/nickel in excellent condition with no fungus, dust, haze or whatever. Looks clear as a bell.

Only thing is, when comparing it directly with the built in finder of my newly CLA'ed IID, it is quite a bit dimmer in use making it less usable in the dusk.

Is the VIDOM's optical design simply like that, or is something else going on here I can't see (quality of glass or....?)

Thanks to anyone in advance with advice.!

It's a bit dimmer indeed. But most of the time it's sufficiently bright to frame with. Remember, framing is by approximation anyway with external finders, they never correct parallax 100% anyway.

The left-right inverted image throws my off a lot more, especially in low light!

Hi there,
Thanxs, good to know that.
Indeed, in use it gives no problems unless the sun is setting ;-0)
Was just surprised by the difference with the internal finder.

I find that the reverse image it gives forces me to compose more consciously so i am learning a lot, despite a number of mistakes so far...!

The image is bounced off a number of prisms surfaces (it's even worse on the VIOOH), there's bound to be more light drop off compared to using a two-lens VF. 😉
