Vietnam in November

I was with my friend in Paris and he read on the net about money getting stolen out of the hotels so he insisted in keeping the entire 2000 Euros on him. The next day he got all of it ripped off on the Metro.

Does not surprise me at all. I know of no other European capital where tourists are targets for theft on such a systematic scale. Both I and Michael Reichmann suspects that it was some kind of hotel inside job, even.

When in Paris: be careful. Use the hotel room safe, dress down and carry few valuables.

The situation improved! I and a friend barged into the processing room and demand to have slides thing fixed lol. It's not "very bad" anymore, just 1/3 stop underdeveloped.

@ Den: go anywhere after 4:30 and you can see crowded street. But it is raining like crazy here in the evening so be careful! On a more specific note: district 1 and district 5 are the interesting places. DO NOT go to Binh Thanh as it is flooded every single day.

@ Oftheherd: the fruit you mentioned is Vu Sua.

Ah yes, trái vú sữa (or star apple fruit). Now I remember (and looked up the diacritical marks). Actually, it's that long since I spoke Vietnamese. I should have remembered.

Anyone interested in visiting this place, give Hanoi some consideration. No offense to someone else's experiences, but if your experience of Vietnam is just the South of this country you've missed a lot. Kick it all the way to Sapa. The train ride there and back is worth the ticket price.

Don't take the pictures so seriously, they were taken with a walmart advantix camera. Just trying to illustrate a good time.

Nice photos whatever they were taken with! The mountains in the first photo are really great. The woman's clothing in the second; I take it she is montanyard? Surely the Vietnamese in the north haven't diviated that much in their dress, or have they?

And no offense to me. My experience was what it was and it was good. I tend to take people as I feel they present themselves to me. What else matters?

Thanks. Vietnam really is an other-worldly experience. I'm not sure what tribe she was from. She told me, but I don't remember. During the 4 or 5 days we hiked she took me to 3 or 4 different villages and they dressed differently at each village. I remember one of the villages were Hmong--can't remember the others, but they were all very welcoming. Good stuff.

That was obviously a trip you will remember for a life time. Wish I could take one like that. I didn't take many photos when I was there other than crime scenes. I wish I had. South Vietnam also had some very picturesque places, as does obviously, the North. Even the Central part had its nice views.
