Hi guys

Here's a picture of my OM1 which I have dressed up in a sort of vietnam vibe.

I've black painted the white parts, added a green softie and strap and I rubbed the softie a little so it looks as worn as the body.

The camera was sold as 'parts or repair' but I can confirm after a test roll it's working perfectly!

Cheers

I forgot the exact reason why but a 'soft' release can damage the internals on a OM-1.

John Hermanson (Camtech) would know the details.

Besides, you don't need one on the OM-1, just put the ball (not the tip) of your finger across the shutter release, take up the slack by pressing the shutter button even with the ring, and when ready, release the shutter with an almost impreceptible movment of the finger. I've always used this method and, except for the sound, you will not see my finger move when I release the shutter. There is a reason that ring was put around the shutter button.

Thanks, I like the feel of a softie and have been using them for years without problems.

Except the OM-1 came out at the end of the US involvement and by the Fall of Saigon OM-1 would have been only ~2 years old. Someone would have had to be very, very rough to wear the camera that much.

Then Gulf War 1 only lasted a few weeks and by 2002/03 and the Afghan/Iraq Debacle film cameras would have been long gone.

So, sorry, War Camera doesn't work out for our beloved OM-1.

Oh... I didn't see the London loc. Perhaps Falklands OM1 would work?

Ok, Falklands OM1.

According to the seller, it was owned by an author who used it to illustrate his books. I should add that all the brassing is genuine, except that on the softie.

As an Vietnamese, it's interesting for me to know how others think about Vietnam. Now I got a new notion: "Black and Green"
It is only one person thinks of Vietnam, the OP. To me it makes absolutely no sense and even a little insensitive. But then again it is just a camera.

Trung

I recently went to a Vietnamese wedding in Adelaide. A great time was had by all.
Your country is definitely on my "to visit" list. :)

I don't think the OP was being derogatory in any way. The Vietnam war has had a profound effect on Western culture.
He was simply trying to create a camera that may have been used in that war. I'm sure he meant no offence.
