Folks, I've got an R-D1 magnifier from megaperls which works well.. its not quite perfect for getting my eyesight corrected so that i can look through without glasses, so i have to keep them on, which is a bit frustrating as the magnifier is just a metal backed thing which i fear may scratch my glasses eventually.

I now look to getting a similar one for my M8 which leaves me with 3 options

i) leica branded magnifier. VERY VERY expensive.
ii) ebay eastern 1.25 magnifier. Claims to accept diopter adjustment lenses, i assume this means leica branded ones.
iii) megaperls 1.35 magnifier. similar to the R-D1 one i already have. Great but not protection for the glasses

I just wonder if option ii) allowing the use of the leica branded diopter adjustment lenses i assume means that those lenses have a similar protective rubber lining around it to stop it hurting glasses, like the standard viewfinder does do. I also wonder if the normal camera viewfinder cover is removable and can this then be screwed into the end of the magnifier?

I just want an improved zoom, and keep protection for my eye glasses.

Cheers

Jim

i wear spectacles most of the time. but when i go out to shoot, i wear contacts. this works well for me, especially when i shoot my m3 or using my mp .58 with the megaperls 1.35x magnifier. is wearing contacts an option for you?

I've never tried them, but after being bitten by the camera collecting bug, and wishing to advance onto the real photography stuff when time allowed i was keen to try out contacts when i had my next eye test.

That came and went and sadly my astigmatism had worsened so that its not feasible for me to get disposable contacts only monthys.. I'm more keen on the occasional use via dailys.. i'm hoping that some other brand of contacts, or other developments may open up this in the near future.

Currently though i'll be required to use glasses sadly.. I'm tending towards option ii) but i just want to know if i can get some official diopter lenses to fit, and if so, will they come with similar padding. or as i asked, can the original on camera viewfinder "cover" be adapted to fit on the end of the magnifier.

Would the eyepiece protector sold by DAG work on the Megaperls?

Someone showed me a magnifier, I think it may have been the megaperls, which had an adjustable built-in diopter with a very wide range.
