Viggo Mortensen a film user !

To me these pictures speak for themselves.
But then again... she was shooting with simple Nikon SLR, so you might be right, she is not worth talking about.
Go Voggo.

I am not trying to judge her photography or make any comparisons. She is not relevant at all. How many photos by Viggo have you seen to make the statement that the original post did not make sense?

He isn't "posing". On the Lord of The Rings extras included on the behind the scenes things on The DVD's Mr. Mortensen is shown using his cameras to document the goings on. He is also shown fly fishing and cooking the catch for crew members. He uses bamboo fly rods too, which I appreciate as a user and repairer of them myself.

I like to watch movies, but I am not a man to adore or follow artists. Yet, I've always liked Viggo Mortesen for his play and I supposed that he is man with character. Lately I discovered FB as a media and I was gladly surprised that he adores horses. Plus these days - he is a writer! And just yesterday I came upon a picture in his unofficial FB page where he has a Leica in his hands. A film version. So, with his permission ,I repost it. Another dedicated Leica and film use r🙂

Have you run across information about his publishing co called Perceval Press?

A while back I was scouring the photography section of a half price books. I picked up Magnum's 9/11 book and Steve McCurry's South Southwest...but what really caught my eye was this little book of photography and poetry by non other than Viggo Mortensen! It was a VERY beautiful book. I remember thinking that no way was this the same guy from Lord Of The Rings, but sure enough it was. It was pretty cool. I think it's fun to know that with probably a lot of resources at his fingertips he chooses to use film as one of his artistic mediums. Sadly, I didn't buy the book that day but went back the next week and it was already gone.... oh well!

I just watched Viggo in "The Road." If that happens we'll all want batteryless cameras.

I like that he combines words and photos, something I'm into. We're seeing more and more of that.

Its so strange how Someone's Simple thoughts and Enthusiasm to share
Can get turned Ugly by 'other' people

Its rather Cruel of people to do ...
Playful banter , tongue in cheek is one thing
Why rain on someone else's Parade
Don't comment and bring a thread down if it gets up your nose,
just move unto another Thread You like

just my 2 cents ...😉

My thoughts exactly, Helen. Well said! 🙂

I disagree with that.

I believe, very strongly, that if we build a mindset of never challenging things we don't agree with, we end up in a world where the strong bully the weak. I don't wish to over-egg the pudding but perhaps we should always remember the words of Martin Niemöller.

I do however, also believe that we should try to be gentle and polite when doing so. People we disagree with also have feelings.

What a lot of, well, sourness over nothing.

I'm pleased Viggo M shoots a Leica and film. As a user of both he is supporting the same manufacturers I would like to see survive. I hope he enjoys them as I do.

Some seem to think that celebs using Leicas and film is interesting and relevant. Even if you do not agree that it all helps promote what we love and is in no way important, why not leave them to their pleasure? Why the need to burst another's bubble? I sometimes find it interesting to read about what other people are doing and how they are doing it; even celebrities. I'm sure you're all too busy taking award winning photographs to have time for this sort of trivia, however.

Some people just despise others by association with something. A popular target of this brand of ire is anything perceptible as "elite". Instead of psychologically projecting our worldview onto people we don't rightly know, how about acknowledging celebrities are people first, just like everyone else, and what comes after is more circumstantial. The cure for Grumpy Old Man Syndrome is a bit of perspective.
