Has anyone used the Zeiss ZM 25mm on the R-D1? It sounds like a great lens, but it looks like the rear element might protrude a little in towards the sensor... and I'm wondering if there might be some vignetting.
Is there any/much vignetting?
Thanks,
Phil

I tested the ZM 25 on the R-D1 and the Ikon but unfortunately had to leave for a trip before I could work on the article. I haven't looked closely at any of the test pictures yet but if I recall correctly the vignetting was moderate wide open and quite moderate at F/8. But I'm not sure....I'll know more when I get back to VT and can begin working on the article.

There is a test of the ZI with 25 and 35 lenses in the Feb. Nippon Camera. Being a
bit handicapped by not being able to read kanji, there was no indication in photos or
charts of noticeable vignetting.
This was one of several superb articles in this issue, which also included a "Goodbye
Hexar RF" tribute; comparison tests between the Contax MM series 50/1.4 and 85/1.4 against the new ZF counterparts (the new 85 is reformulated--only 6 elements
in 5 groups--amazing); a two page spread showing every lens currently available for
RF cameras, including MF; a "battle of the banding--er, bands", between the D200 and the 20D; and a write up on the Mamiya ZD. There's other stuff as well, but
those are the "highlights".
I WISH I was turning Japanese...

Sean, do you have a 24mm Elmarit Asph. to compare? I'm curious to know if it keeps lines straight. The Elmarit does not.
Thanks, Urik

Hi Ulrik,
I requested one from Leica for the test but they weren't able to get me one in time.
Phil,
My pleasure. Expect the article in late March.

I couldn't resist the temptation and bought a ZM 25 last week... I've only had a day or so to test since it arrived. It does vignette wide open, but it I've found it easy to correct. Sharp. I love it so far.

Phil, are there amy barrel distortion? I coouldnt wait for the ZM 25 so I got thte 24 Elmarit asph - it has slight barrel shaped distortion and I'm thinking about trading it for a ZM if it has straight lines.

Hi Ulrik,
No barrel distortion that I can detect.
I've attached a couple of pictures with straight-ish lines as examples. The first two don't have vignetting corrected. The last picture has the vignetting corrected. All corrections via Adobe Bridge (from CS2).
Note that these photos are taken through a plane window at sunset, and I suspect that these factors could be contributing to some vignetting.

Hi Ulirik,
I think this was wide open (2.8).. or at most 4.0.
