"Vintage era"?

Whilst playing around with the newly-acquired 4490 scanner, I'm going through all the negatives that showed "Only if I'm bored"-type prints.

Y'know... the photos you took because there was a chance of something, but once you saw the negs you thought "Well... nah, there's others... for now".

Well, I've tried, with the Leica setup, to recreate "Vintage era" photos. Perhaps using Rodinal (1+100) has helped, perhaps it's the uncoated lens, perhaps using Agfa APX400, perhaps it's a combination of all 3... but I've just noticed something, whilst working on a scan of Llandudno pier...


Leaving the photo unsharpened, cloning out the dust and hairs, and adding a "fuzzy border"... when was this photo taken? 😉

I agree, it does have that 'vintage touch', but I don't like the Fuzzy borders, they look too 'sprayed on' in Post-process.

I find that an uncoated lens and the type of film help a lot in creating the 'vintage look'.

If you're going to do anything with faux vintage photos in Photoshop, play around with the toning of the images. A little goes a long way.

What's photoshop?

Seriously, I use "GIMP", which does toning in a far better method for myself. As opposed to myself, being partially-colourblind, having to maul with colour pickers, with GIMP I can simply lift the colourtone off a b+w image and apply it to whatever b+w image I want.

But, I prefer to keep photos as close to what the viewfinder/lens saw. 🙂
