I'd go. when she spoke in Toronto last year, I got to show her talk too late, line was several hundred deep.

If you like her work you should go. If not go make your own photos. I'm afraid I don't care much for the majority of her work. I'd go make my own images. It really comes down to how you like her work.

It's a rare opportunity to see and hear Sally Mann.
I love most of her work.
Many photos are magic.
In Toronto, the Ontario Province, thru Contact,
purchased her book "Hold still".
Nearly everybody at her lecture received a copy,
personally signed.
Go, Sally is well worth it.

Sally visited when I was at grad school in Savannah 20+ years ago, and she showed a bunch of 20"x30" prints to our class (I think at the time she had an assistant printing her work) and spoke for about an hour. At the time I didn't really 'get' her work, but I appreciated her frenetic energy and dedication. I'm glad I had the chance to meet her, be part of a discussion and see her work. She really couldn't understand what all the 'controversy' concerning her work was about, which at the time I found rather curious.
Fast-forward to a few years back, I was speaking with my 'Camera Wiz' repair guru and good friend, Frank Marshman, as I do from time to time. Somehow we got on the subject of Leica, and he asked: "Do you know much about old Leica lenses?" "A fair bit", I replied. "Why do you ask?" Well, it turned out that Frank and Sally are friends (she lives in his general area of Virginia, and he repairs all her cameras), and she had this M3 and was looking for old lenses for it. Specifically she was looking for lenses that gave that 'dreamy', in focus yet kinda out of focus, glowy look. Think 73/1.9 Hektor, 50/1.5 Xenon, 50/2 Summar, and I suppose even the Thambar if you wanted to go really crazy. So Frank said, "Why don't you give her a call for me and give her some advice on what lenses to get?" So I ended up calling Sally and we spent about 1/2 hour on the phone talking Leica lenses, and going through the KEH website together (she didn't even know about KEH at the time) and looking at lenses for sale.
Don't know what she ultimately did, but I should probably put on my CV that I've been a 'lens advisor' to Sally Mann
