Just joined. My first post.
Wondering if anyone is using a Visoflex on their R-D1. I have a III and can only use the chimney viewer as the camera is too tall to take the right angle prism. Kind of a drag but what I really would like to know is how do you deal with the shutter release arm as it doesn't seem long enough to press the shutter. Using an Abrahamsson Softrelease solves the problem but I wonder if there is a more elegant solution. Anyway, any Visoflex R-D1 tips would be much appreciated. Is anyone out there still interested in Visoflex??

I use the R-D1 with a Viso, and also with a Reprovit IIa. I have not proceeded further than the chimney finder and a softie, and probably won't.

For both these application as mask needs to be placed between the finder and the Viso / Repro optical system to get the right FOV. If you need a template for this, I can provide it.

I'm interested in a mask for the reprovit. I've made one using an aluminum slide mask cut to size, it's ok but hard to get in the right place on the glass, I use small bits of tape that heat up and moves around ... gggrrrr .... . A better solution would make me happy?

Thank you for all the responses so far. If anyone else is curious about using the Visoflex system on an R-D1 I can tell you that the image files produced by this camera with a 65 Elmar are stunningly sharp and they print beautifully at 16X20". Yea it's a very funky system and you could probably pull the same thing off with a DSLR and the appropriate adapter but Visoflex is just so cool to use. The Hong Kong prism mod looks absolutely terrifying! I think I'll pass. But a mask template would be great. Yes, Ed, I would be very interested. Thanks!

Member mtokue, who has not posted in awhile, kindly sought out and got me a metal mask, after I had found it on a Japanese site where its maker had run off a few samples. It is a thin piece of copper, which I then blackened. It was made to fit in the Viso exactly (actually with a small bit of filing), and in the Reprovit head it is a bit too small in outside dimensions , but fine in the inner ones.

I will scan the mask and put up a pdf on my wife's website sometime in the next day or so, and give a link then.

Using a maask in the visoflex is fine but we get a small image. does any of you have any experience with changing the enlargement of the chimney viewfinder?

Thank you for the template. I guess I'll try to find someone who can make a thin metal mask for me using it. Maybe I'll call SK Grimes.
I'm not sure there is a way to change the enlargement of the chimney finder except to perhaps glom a magnifier onto the eyepiece. Maybe more trouble than it's worth.

Dear Visoflex Enthusiasts,

because the link concenring the prsim housing modification is no longer active, I would like to ask if anyone could provide me with a source of the step-by-step guide (or maybe could email the guide, if available)?

I am the proud owner of a Visflex since yesterday, first tryouts where quite encouring but without the prism it seems to be very difficult to take a good photo.

However, Rather than filing and destroying your finder why not slip some copper shims about 3mm between the prism and slide plate? Anyone followin me? after all all the prism does is correct your view so if it is acually raised 3mm from the mirror housing, would it effect focus? If I am missing something here please correct me all.

Thanks a lot, Enterprise, for this fast response...in IT language I would call this modification a "brute force attack" :)

If I am right with my try-outs, raising the prism would effect focus, the picture becomes more and more blurry.

So I have to look for the chimney finder, I suppose...don't like to file the prism.

If you take the ground glass out of the Visoflex you can draw lines directly on the bottom of the ground glass with a sharp pencil to match the smaller frame. A bit of soap and wter and a tooth brush will get it off if you want.
