VM 50/f1.5 not bringing up correct M2 framelines

Hi all, I’m having some issues with my VM 50/f1.5 and M2.

When first mounted (and turned as far as possible into place), the lens just brings up the edge of the 50mm framelines. As soon as I turn the focus ring, it’s enough movement to shift from the 50mm to 35mm lines.

The Voigt has never brought up the 50mm lines fully, but it’s only in the last 6 months that it’s stopped bringing them up at all.

I’m fairly sure this is a lens issue as the other 50’s I’ve used on this body (5cm Cron Collapsible and 50mm Lux) bring up the framelines perfectly.

Any suggestions on a fix? I really like the Nokton and would like to get it back into rotation 🙂

No certain solution Nick, but a related experience with my 50/1.5 Sonnar on my former M2. I was a very tight fit in the body of the M2. The same lens on other M bodies (M6, M3, M5, CL) is not a problem. So maybe it is a clash of tolerances. If the lens turned more freely and a bit further on the M2, maybe all would be well. Possibly, some very gentle emery paper work may help if the tightness is the problem.

Sounds like the tab on the lens mount that pushes down against the frame line selector mechanism on the camera body isn't pushing the mechanism down far enough to properly engage the 50mm frame line. One option would be to build up the height of the tab on the lens somehow (a piece of copper tape, a dab of hard setting glue?). A fraction of a mm will make all the difference. Also check that the screws that hold the mount on the lens are tight.

Thanks for the response. I don’t think this is the issue as the Nokton isn’t particularly tight and has similar play when mounted to all of my other lenses. Once locked in it’s possible to move it a fraction, but this only brings up the partial 50mm frame - as soon as the focus is turned it disappears again...

That’s what I was thinking, but wasn’t sure how to build up the tab.

Also check that the screws that hold the mount on the lens are tight.

I just checked my M mount lenses on my M6 body Nick. Most of them can't move at all when locked in, so it seems like there may be too much movement there with your lens. Jon's work-around sounds like the easiest possible solution.

Ok thanks for the info. I’ll have a look and try to figure out an elegant way to extend the tab a fraction.
