Voiglander 15mm Helliar enters the stable

I'm heading to America for the first time in November , New York, l want to shoot some city scapes so when l saw a Voigtlander 15mm f4.5 Helliar at a steal of a deal l just had to grab it. Really excited to own such a lens and have never shot such a wide angle before, its the first version uncoupled ltm lens. It comes with a third party finder which will do until l bag a Voigtlander one. How do people find this lens, l usually shoot at 5.6, so uncoupled does not frighten me so m much😀

I have one and the results are fabulous, it's very sharp. Get as close as possible to the subject though. The depth of field largely removes the need for coupled focussing.

It’s a good lens Mike. I used mine a little on a Minolta CLE and it’s really wide, gets everything in. I still use it but on my RD1 which only gives me 23mm. Still a five though.

I'm taking pictures at 16mm sometimes. If lens is not kept aligned with horizon, not so good things happening at the corners.

This is great focal length for street crowds, then you are in the arm length from the action.
NY has some spots like these 🙂.
For scapes aim to high observation points. At least two in Manhattan.
Observation decks on tour buses is good, but I'm not sure about November.

I tried the CV 15mm, but I seem to prefer my 15mm and 18mm Nikkors on an SLR or DSLR because it's easier for me to see the foreground to background relationship in the reflex finder. The rangefinder auxiliary finders work for me for 21 and 24mm, but for anything wider I seem to need reflex viewing. But the CV 15 is a great lens IQ wise, though!
