You should simply enjoy your Nikon. I have a lot of Leica gear, but I find that I prefer to use the Nikon stuff. Nikon rangefinders aren't for everybody, but the old photo journalists and war photographers liked them, and after using Nikon S gear for awhile, I can see why.

Oh I do enjoy my Nikon a lot and it would still be my film rangefinder system. The reason I'm looking at Leica is because I'd like a digital rangefinder option in my stable.

Probably the best choice of all would be the Millennium Nikkor shown at the left of Jon's photo. Unfortunately they are hard to find and terribly expensive if you do locate one.
me, I'm happy with the original Nikkor 1.4 on my SP.

I am lucky to have a Millenium Nikkor.
Therefore, I am not looking for any new 50mm lens.

I have all three (classic Nikkor, Nokton in S mount, and Millennium), and also the 2007 Zeiss in S mount – and would be happy to part with all of the first three!

Yes, for 50mm I prefer 2007 Sonnar-Cs on both S3 2000 and M9. And classic Nikkor on S2. At wide apertures, the Sonnar-Cs render like classic Nikkor/Sonnars; from f5.6, they become more contrasty. Focus shift can interfere between wide & middle apertures.

I seem to be in a minority of one about Millennium Nikkors – I don't 'get it' about screwin' up a classic camera with a modern Planar-type lens. I don't use older cameras to make images that look brand new.

IMO the S3 2000 and S-mount 2007 Sonnar-C occupy a nice place in the middle: contemporary gear that makes mid-20th-century images. But it's turned out to be sort of a tuxedo camera that I don't often wear.
