So, an ex-coworker of mine found this Voigtländer Vito CL in a dumpster (!) the other day. The camera case, the external flash (apparently dead), the lens cover - the whole nine yards. Externally it was in very good shape so I wonder if it is in perfect working condition.
It appears the inner mechanism works too, though we can't be sure until he gets the film shot and developed. My friend also expressed his willingness to sell it once an approximate price is established. So, what would you pay for that camera and the accessories listed above?
I'm no by means an expert on older cameras, so would you please share your insight in that particular piece? Is it any good for amateur photography, what's the lens like and any other pieces of info that you might know, I'd be happy to know.
Cheers,
Tuomo

KEH has a CL deluxe with a broken meter for $17. I'd say double that price for a fully working one. Accessy's vary alot - but it's not as tho any are very rare.
They are cute, capable cameras. Not collectible, or particularly special - but should a fun shooter.

Alrighty, I'll let him know. In the meantime, I found some pics on the intarweb taken with a Vito... Google search works wonders!
Thanks for the info, and hey, if anyone else feels like popping in an answer you are free to do so
. Personal experiences with the camera interest me in particular.

This has the Color-Skopar lens, I believe, so it will take excellent pictures if the optics are OK. I'd say it's worth somewhat more, maybe closer to $50 (assuming all is working, though the meter may indeed be too expensive to repair economically).
In a dumpster! I guess some folks just don't care.

I'd assume it has a lanthar rather then a skopar, the vito CL was Voightlander going down market from their past glory. To keep it working you may need watch makers screwdrivers.
If the shutter is ok and the focus not too stiff it would serve to take photos. But it is not a Zorki.

The best camera is one that still works!
I have a CLR which I bought off ebay for around $30.00. It has the Skopar lens which produces very nice results. I don't use it much but I was impressed when I did.......nice camera!

One must always take time to stop and smell the dumpsters.

No, you can do it from home. Isn't eBay kind of a "virtual dumpster"?

That particular seller doesn't have the most untarnished reputation. That might affect the price.bob cole said:Here's a rough idea:
