Cosina did make one, sold under the Zeiss brand: 18mm f/4.0 Distagon T* in M mount. Note that the mount should be a 50/75mm one, and then it can be 6-bit coded to 110100 to have the EXIF show it as an 18mm.
Not so very compact, however...
