Found this interesting little lens for sale in the used section at BH Photo.
I guess the 16mm Hologon was either too expensive or not wide enough for somebody, so they had the Voigtlander 12mm (not sure if LTM or M-mount) converted to mount on the Contax G.

How neat! I wonder if it focuses like the other Contax G lenses, with the motor?

My guess would be that it focuses manually with a focusing tab or standard focus ring (just as the 16mm f/8 Hologon does, with the focusing tab instead of autofocus motor.)
Just thought it was a very interesting tidbit to share with everybody. I found it because I was looking at both used contax g bodies/lenses as well as voigtlander lenses, all in the same search. Trying to expand my compact options for street photography.
edit: The link was very helpful. So basically the purpose of this conversion is to have an ultra-wide that retains TTL metering and distance reading functions, unlike the Hologon. That does make good sense.

Contax G is a great way to go for compact street photography. the 28/2.8 is a jewel of a lens.

I've heard great praise for the 28mm lens. I'd like to be able to get my hands on the 28/2.8 and the 45/2 this year but I also need to get a lens for my Bessa L because I haven't been able to afford one yet.

It is manual (zone) focus. These aren't actually rare, probably more widespread than the Hologon at least hereabouts, and sometimes do show up on ebay Germany.
Of course the performance is not quite in the Hologon or Biogon league - but then the latter are rather overkill on 24x36mm film. The biggest snag is that Cosina never made (or bought in) matching centre filters for their ultrawides.

won't it be swell (and sacrilegious) to convert the g lens to m-mount ? imagine having the 28/45/90 on my m.....drool...

There was some Japanese guy that does (or did?) that at fixed price. IIRC Jon (jonmanjiro) and Dirk (of japanexposures) know more and/or have dealt with him.

I have a silver VC heliar 15/4,5 lens modified by Zoerk .The focousing is only manual of course..It performs very well also @4,5 with little or not so disturbing light fall at corners. The VF is very clear and I like it very much. The only thing is that you're photografyng your fingers and feets..............

I just snapped up a 45/2 off of KEH tonight. They had one about four days ago and when I went to take a second look, it was gone. Glad I got this one. Now it's time to grab the body and start shooting! This thread was the little push I needed.
