Voigtlander 21/1.8 Corner to corner sharp!

Have there been any improvements on such lenses since 2013? I mean, is there a new lens out that is 21mm or similar focal length that is optically somehow better?

The Bean -Chicago. One of my absolute favourite pieces of public art anywhere. Fomopan 400, Td 201 developer and the 21f1.8 on a Bessa R4M.

Ford Museum, Dearborn, Michigan. The Allagheny Locomotive - largest ever built in the US, weighing in at 900 tonnes and could pull 27 million pounds of freight cars and load!
This is the Ultron 21f1.8 at f1.8 (it is rather dark in there and the engine is black, really black!). Even a 21 is not wide enough to pull all of it in though.

The Ultron 21mm f18 on a M2. It is not a small lens, but it is also a super fast 21. Only competition is the Summilux 21f1.4 - which is 6-7 times the price!
It does block part of the finder - but as it is a 21 you need to use an external finder anyway and then its fine (the finder here is the Voigtlander 21/25 finder)
Performance wise I can't find much difference between the SummiluX 21 and the Ultron 21. Edges are marginally better on the Summilux at f1.8, but centre sharpness is the same -and the Ultron might be even a bit better in this aspect.
Vignetting is much better controlled with the Ultron - the Summilux has at least 2 stops fall off and the Ultron is considerably less.
As with any "special" lenses - and the Ultron falls into this category - it is meant to be used wide open. Once stopped down it is as good as any other 21 that I have.

Makes me Crave a second 21... Its the only POV i will shoot for 2015, just call me the 21 Queen :D

On a side note, my attempt at a year with only a 50 failed miserably. I lasted almost 3 months.:bang:

Now I have severe gas for a 21

.a tad crazy I know
But a 21 feels so the right way to go and loosen up from my 35/50 frame of mind.... i really look forward to making the Effort and seeing what will come


Gas for a 21 ultron is hard to resist for sure... Come join the Fun ;)
