this lens gets a bad rap by folks who like very soft bokeh, and say the OOF is "too harsh". The boke is not mid-20th century soft, but it works for me, its just different. At times the boke can actually be very creamy rather than soft per se. Having said all that, I seem to get better results with my CV 35/1.4 SC on my RD-1s rather than my M6.

I just popped open your thumbnail above, the shot is quite nice: not only the personal eye contact with the girl at relative ease, but the broad tonal dynamics. Her whiter cheeks and the darker blacks offer a bit more punch and authority. Very good!

Beautiful Photograph Andrew!

I have had a 35 1.4 on my M8.2 for playing around in a shop some time ago, but ended up, not buying it.
I itch, to find a nice 35 Lux pre ASPH or ASPH for a speedy 35mm, but actually liked the much more affordable CV.

Could somebody elaborate on the difference between the SC and MC coatings regarding use on the M8.2, R-D1 in low light shots (flare etc)?

I was surprised at how well the 35 Nokton SC performed on the M8; maybe I shouldn't have been, since it's a modern sharp contrasty lens. It does have a slight tendency to veiling flare if there are bright areas or lights in or near the frame. And I think this is what the designers were after in this version.

I was even more surprised at the lovely sharp rendition of my old v.1 35 Summicron on the M8, though distinctly lower in contrast than the Nokton.

Interestingly, these two lenses share a very similar optical design...

Thanks, guys. I've really come to find 35mm fits my eye very well, and the CV is really pleasing me. It definitely does flare in certain conditions, and I'm enjoying it.

Off to the bar with it now...
