Voigtlander 50mm 1.1 on M9

I like those images, but the DOF on the image of the horse seems too deep to be f:1.1. Did you lighten the corners? Because I do get some vignetting at f:1.1 (of f:1) with both...

Brian, I have one of your old lenses... a kind of semi-screwed (supposedly) up 50mm F2 rigid summicron that was up for sale on classifieds for like $350 (had sharpie on the front element)... I was meaning to tell you how great it's been working out on the M9.

Thankyou! I learned a lot about Rigid Summicrons with that lens! "Fit and Finish", the Leitz lenses were individually fit, and I tried 3 front elements to get oen close enough to the original.

......There is a bit of focus shift as you stop down. A bit of trial and error helps in that respect - by focussing then leaning back a ffew inches...................

Doesn't the focus move back so that to correct it you would lean forward?

No, you need to pull back a smidge to move that shifted focal point forwards, onto your subject. The 1,5/50 Sonnar ZM works the opposite.

The focus shift from F1.1 to F2.8 is a good fraction of an inch at closest focus. It is about the same as a Sonnar forumula F1.5 lens.

I optimized my lens for the M9 for wide-open use by adding one layer of copper tape (0.025mm or so) on the RF cam. I can use it at F1.1 across the full focus range, so the focal length is spot-on. Yesterday used it at a Skating rink with a Leica 1.25x magnifier on the M9, no problems even with "disco-lights and LASERS" as the only lighting source.

If anyone else wants to get this lens out of their system they should buy mine. I chose it over the Sonnar a few months ago. Then someone traded me a Sonnar and an M2. I don't want to hoard lenses so having two 50s is unnecessary. The rest of my kit is compact, so the Sonnar just makes more sense.
