The APO lens is 11 elements in 9 groups! Huge and complex. I bet it will be a great performer. (edit: it was also announced in Sony E-mount, which is no surprise, but a welcome addition to the dozens of 35mm lenses for that system)
The Ultron is just a design refresh, it seems. It comes in black and silver, and has a distance scale in feet added, as well as a focusing knob instead of the stick. The barrel is made of brass on both finishes, making it heavier than the first version lens

It's too big for my taste. For that size I would rather have the 35/1.4 Distagon...

My 1959 Summaron 35/2.8 is a great performer. This new Lanthar 35mm will be state-of-the-art.
The version II Ultron looks sweet though. Looks like even the focus tab is brass (take that Leica). What's more, all the stick haters will finally stop their griping lol

The APO-Lanthar's weight is surprisingly moderate. The FE version weighs only 12 grams more than the Loxia 35/2.
Yummy is all I have to say for the Ultrons. Especially the black paint one...

Hmm.
I need to see some more photos of the Ultron type II. From what it looks like, it's being sold alongside the type I with the focusing stick.
Is the type I better looking? I'm thinking it might be..

The new 35mm APO Lanthar is the best performing 35mm lens Voigtlander has ever made - in either FE or M mount. To me the super performance is worth the lens size.
The new 35mm Ultron II are 8 element brass lenses in either black paint or silver paint, MC coating.
I wonder how such a compact classic 70's styled 8 element lens will compare with the original 8 element Summicron and the Light Labs 8 element? That will be fun comparing.

Compact is the 35 C Biogon, 28 Elmarit ASPH or better yet, CV 3,5/28. The 28 Biogon is "manageable".

WOW! Voigtlander is killing it. Ha, ha, giving Leica a lot of competition. Even a Leicaphile has to think twice.

Another plus in the APO 35mm's favor is that it focuses to 0.5m rather than 0.7m (though using live view, or guesstimating if you're using it on a film body). That maybe doesn't sound like much, but it's about 2/3s of a foot closer.

I have two of these 3 lenses.
Yes, it would be fun to do so.

It made no sense that they'd redesign an already outstanding lens so recently introduced. Just improved ergonomic pants.
The APO is as long (58mm) and carries the same filter thread size (49mm) as the 28 Summilux. Not small.
Perhaps a more apt optical comparison may be to the heftier ZM 1,4/35 instead (length: 65mm, filter size 49mm).

Will it better than the VM 35mm 1.7 Ultron? Oh my...!!! I think the Ultron is so good optically... if the Lanthar is better, I don't know what it will be!!
It will be great to see some examples from this lens! I will wait for them!
Thanks for the info!

For the new Ultrons its a bad thing to give buyers more choices in an excellent lens? Really?
The new M 35mm APO Lanthar is likely to be one of the best, if not the best 35mm M lens currently in production. Its made to compete with the very best lenses optically, weight or filter size are not major considerations in that equation.
For light weight and small size in a 35mm M lens, Voigtlander only offers 6 different in production choices: 35/1.4 MC, 35/1.4 SC, 35/2 V1, 35/2 V2 Black, 35/2 Silver, 35/2.5P

I think he meant more that the type II ultron uses the same optical formula as the type I because it's already a new and excellent formula, so there'd be no reason to update it.

Not casting aspersions on the 35 APO, probably bests the ZF 1,4/35. Size is likely to be the only benefit of the upcoming 35 Summicron APO over the CV.

Well, at least the new Ultron doesn’t seem to offer anything tangible over the ‘old’ Ultron. That’ll save the wallet any temptations

I can see more beautiful colors with non-APO lenses on the M9 than APO lens on the M10.
You can't get it all in one lens. I could be wrong here. I love using my 50 APO on the M10, but I also enjoy using less perfect 50mm lenses on the M9.
