I just received my new used R with 50/2.5,
What struck me was the noise of the shutter. (Not in a bad way, I like the classic mechanical feel of the Cha-Chuck).

Immediately gave me sweet memories of the FM2 (Why did I ever sell that sweet FM2?) that I started out shooting. Except that the FM2 had honey comb titanium shutters, I could understand the noise! but the R has plastic shutters why is it as noisy?

Waiting for my 35mm Jupiter 12 to arrive from the Ukraine....we'll have to give it a good work out then.

😀

Good to hear you like the Bessa. The R is a nice little camera, I often miss mine. It is so light and easy to use. I believe the shutters in the R are steel though. Oh, and one word of caution, the J12 has a large protruding rear element which may infact not fit inside the Bessa. Mount it carefully as it may damage the shutter, or rear element of the lens. Check out the Cameraquest R2 page for a list of lenses which will not fit the Bessas. Comments regarding the R2 will apply to the R also.

The Bessa cameras of Voigtlander have metal shutters and I am happy to hear that you like its loud shutters! Sweet music to my hears too! 😛

The Bessas actually have 2 sets of shutters for light-tightness. The other reason for the loudness is that the shutter is made of multiple metal blades instead of, say, cloth curtains which another famous camera uses.

Yikes!

Thanks for letting me know about the Jupiter 12. Don't want to destroy the R in the first week! Looks like the jupiter will just have to be faithful to my Zorki 4K then.... no flings or one day stands with the R for you!
Since I much prefer the 35mm to 50mm, looks like I'll be in the market for a used Ultron 35mm soon!

Guess I'm down the Homer Simpson end of the spectrum here "duh!"
But where can I find the compatibility charts non-voigtlander lenses for the R and R2?
I had a look at Cameraquest but no bananas for this monkey!

Thanks
Nick
