I just bought a used R2 and the rangefinder is out of adjustment. I am not qualified to make this repair. Does it make sense to send this to someone or should I return the camera to the seller? What tech might adjust this for a reasonable fee?

I have had both my Bessa R and R2a worked on for RF alignment: I slipped on the ice with my R and knocked the alignment out. That one I sent back to Stephen and his tech sorted it out quickly and at a reasonable cost--a little less than $100, I think it was. The R2a ended up in my luggage last December and the luggage traveled ( in a sled pulled by snowmobile ) across the frozen lake I live on in the winter and the RF alignment ended up slightly off by the end of winter. That one I sent back to Photovillage--where I bought it--and they fixed it. Again quickly and about $100 all in.
I'm sure there are other people who could do this work but I've no idea what they might charge.
And whether what I paid seems reasonable to you or not, you'll have to decide. I thought it was and am very happy with the cameras. Though I will be getting a pelican hard case to transport my gear for next winter! The adjusted R traveled in the same luggage this past winter and suffered no ill effects so I guess the repair was better than the factory setting.
Good luck with yours!
Rob

I had an unfortunate happening (still don't know what was wrong) with my R light metering and after a warranty service by Stephen it came back thru the mail with a slight mis-alignment of the RF.
Rather than send it back across the Pacific with the probability it could be the mail service that was rough and it would happen again anyway, Stephen suggested I trawl here and find the threads on adjustment, and do it myself. I did this, no probs.
If you're handy with simple tools you could save $100! Just a thought.
I don't know what the mail service did, because I took that camera round the world last year and it never budged off true alignment. They must've thrown it on the ground.:(

Thanks, Rick and Rob. I have written to Stephen about my repair need.

Murray,
I dug up some of the repair info. I am going to send it to Stephen this time and hope that there won't be a next time, but if there is, I might give the adjustments a try. Worst case, if I can't get it right, I'll send it in. Thanks for pointing me to this info.
