Need advice on the most useful lens for my newly purchased R4M, somewhere between 24 and 35mm seems to make the most sense for me.Thinking about a Summicron 35mm asph,28 Ulton , or a Zeiss 25mm.
Thanks for your suggestions.

I guess the usefulness is about what kind of angle of view you want and which framelines you prefer.
The 35mm f1.7 Ultron or Nokton 1.4 are not bad choices either, or the new Voigtländer 25...

The 28 Ultron f2.0 and the R4M are well matched. Solitary frame line and a really good lens. I used to have my 21f4.5 ZM Biogon more or less permanently on the R4M, but with less daylight the 28f2 has taken its place. Might have to break down and get a 2nd R4M for the 21f4.5!

Indoors, I use the CV 28mm f/2 or the 35mm f/2 Summicron. Outdoors and general travel, the 25mm f/4 due to its compactness. I also love the ZM 21mm f/2.8 for those special wide shots.

Congrats, clicker! Those are all such different choices.
I'm not sure it really makes sense to ask the question in terms of the body. What are you regularly going to shoot?
If it's people, I'd stay with 35 or 28. Not that 25 doesn't work, it can, but...
Landscapes? Cityscapes? Street at hyperfocal? 25 or 28.

Since you didn't specify, I'd say get the in-between choice CV 28/2, but if you shoot enough color, I think you'd really be happier with a Zeiss, either the 28 or the 25 (which are also nice in B+W, too).

Thank you forum members for your insight and suggestions, what a pleasure it is to have such expertise at your fingertips. I am going with a 28mm for starters and seeing where it leads me. Once again thank you all for your input and happy shooting !

how's the viewfinder blockage w/ the Ultron on R4?

ZM 28/2,8 or CV 28/2

ZM 28/2,8 or CV 28/2

Hi Jon
I am not decided also about what 28 (both B&W and color) to buy: Ultron or Biogon. Could you advise and why?, thanks.
Jacek

I use the C/V 28 f3.5 Skopar, Canon 28f3.5, and Leica 21f2.8 ASPH (which I will sell once I can find a Zeiss 21f4.5 Biogon). I think the 28 is ideal, and for an eyeglass wearer as I am, having the 21 frameline is terrific. I have given up using a 50 on the R4m-the small frameline is annoying. This is a wide angle camera-enjoy it!

Jacek, I haven't used the new Ultron, only the old one. In side by side tests I preferred the Biogon.
I like the size of the Biogon very much. Not too big, not too small, it is just right. The Ultron is a stop faster, and that may be deal breaker for some people. I love the way the ZM lenses do colour; less so on the Ultron. The new Ultron seems very good with black and white, yet so does the ZM.
I think it depends on what other lenses you are matching it with and what style of shooting you do.
The CV 28/3.5 is a real gem, too, but I found it too small for ease of use except in hyperfocal mode. I have large hands and thick fingers...
I have a 28 Biogon for sale at a killer price if you want one.
