Voigtlander Skoparon 35mm f3.5

Hi,

My dad just bought a Prominent and seperately he bought a Skoparon 35mm f3.5. He asked me about the distance ring on the lens that has a raised nipple to allow you to turn the ring. However, we are struggling to work out what it does. It spins around smoothly but keeps going around the body of the lens. It doesn't stop so appears to have nothing to indicate a start or end point. When moving it, it doesn't move the lens element or anything else. It seems redundant. As this couples to the Prominents rangefinder, it can't be for setting the distance. We can't even be sure it is working correctly. So ultimately, does anyone know what it does?

Please help solve the mystery.

Dont have my prominent on hand but only thing that rings a bell is the locking ring. Does the the lens locks ok on the lens?

Here are a couple of images. The ring I refer to is to one above the shutter speeds. The second image shows the nipple. These are not pictures of the actual lens but are representative of my description.

Isn't that the depth of field indicator? Set the infinity mark at the aperture you are using on one side and the other side will tell you your minimum focus distance when matched up with the same aperture setting on the other side. The raised nipple is there so you can turn it without disturbing the other settings.

As it is set in the picture it looks like the infinity mark is at f12.5 so, if you look at f12.5 on the other side it seems to indicate that everything from 1.8 meters to infinity will be in focus at that aperture setting.

Since the lens is now set at f16 you have chosen a conservative estimate of your depth of field for that aperture setting.

Yeah Pioneer ,thats my first guess but muf says that its spinning around. Probably got loose? Not sure if that could happen. Thats what I want to check on mine.

Voightlanders lens mounts could be tricky 🙂

Thanks Pioneer. That makes sense. So its just to read the depth of field.

mpaniagua. It isn't spinning around. It goes around full 360 and continues. But its smooth like the focus of a lens smooth. Not loose.
