I feel this too - it has a 'heaviness' in the midtones that makes the output have a really strongly defined look/feel - especially in black and white.
Those portraits you're posting are really striking!
That one's such a satisfying composition Nick. I've come back to look at it a few times.
Excellent photos here Nick, Helen and Gavin (and those on previous pages). Very tempted to switch from my Color-Skopar but trying to convince myself the difference will be minimal. You all are not helping!
Haha sorry about that!
I had the VM 35/f2.5 before the Ultron, it's a wonderful lens! Honestly I don't think you'd see much/any difference between them at the apertures they share (on film anyway).
For me, the big argument in favour of the Ultron is f2 (which may or may not matter), the ergonomics (I found the Color Skopar cramped) and the fit and finish (the Ultron is streets ahead).

The OOF area in this shot reminds me a lot of the Summitar and the Nikkor 35/2.5, both of which I own and love. I'm thinking of getting a newer 35 for the closer focus ability. But wonder if this one would be too similar to lenses I already own
