Hi,
I have arrived to Liechtenstein in order to study for some month now. Are there any locals that could give me some advice about photo scene in the vicinity? I'm looking for meeting fellow rangefinder-ers, for some public darkroom where it's possible to develop and enlarge in the dark and unwelcoming winter evenings, and maybe some websites with classifieds as I will need a wider lens and an adapter, and don't want to order from EU because of the customs (Swiss eBay looks pretty dead...).
Any suggestions?

There are quite some photo-clubs that offer studios and darkrooms for a small fee where you can do your own stuff. Most of them are only reachable with a car. You can find them in Eastern Switzerland and Vorarlberg (Wolfurt, Feldkirch,...).

If you want to order something from EU it would be the best to use Amazon.de or ebay.de or for some price-checking: geizhals.at
Normally the customs should be non-existent if they send to Switzerland/Liechtenstein. I don't know of any particular swiss online-shops because I'm from Vorarlberg.

Have fun and enjoy the lovely autumn-weather.

Thanks Simon!
Feldkirch isn't very far and is accessible by direct bus connection from here, that would be a good news :) Will get in touch with the ones I'll be able to google. Still, stories about 35chf for the mere calculations of import duties is putting me off trying to order an adapter for 50eur. But maybe I'll give it a shot when I'm desperate enough :)

Check out ricardo.ch for swiss auctions, http://www.fotoflohmarkt.ch/ and http://owy.ch/035_fotoboerse/durchsuchen.htm for classifieds.

For buying new online, check prices at toppreise.ch or preissuchmaschine.ch. Pay attention to seller ratings. Reliable sellers include digitec and digifuchs - both of them have brick and mortar stores in Zurich.

There is a film darkroom in Zurich that I know of at the ETH (Federal Institute of Technology), don't know of any further east.

Here's a list of camera markets: http://www.foto-club.ch/fotoboerse/

The biggest is this coming Sunday in Lichtensteig, that's between Zurich and St Gallen. The one in Bern is also useful to visit, but a bit further from you. You can also ask about labs and darkrooms from people at these markets.

There is usually no customs duties in Switzerland for camera gear but you will have to pay value added tax (Mwst or Mehrwertsteur) of 7.5%, plus additional charges by the post office or courier company. Check the website of the Swiss or Liechtenstein Post for details. If you buy anything new from an EU country, make sure to ask the seller if they can deduct their Vat/Mwst as it's being shipped to Switzerland. Not sure how it works with Liechtenstein.

There are photography groups on englishforum.ch, but they're mainly digital. You can also try a Yahoo group called Digifotoch (I used to be one of the admins) - there are some film shooters there.

Hi there...

I have a friend in Walenstadt (not an RFFer!) who would love find a local darkroom that is accessible for a fee. I had no idea that there were ones in that region.

The schwarz weiss labor in Zürich is http://www.fotolabor.ethz.ch/doku.php

Nick, if you can give some addresses for the darkrooms in the Lichtenstein-Eastern Switzerland area, we'd be grateful!!!
