Since I lost one of my softwares with the Mac upgrade, I have been using Vuescan but have issues with the framing when doing batch scanning negs. The frames never line up after preview, even with auto turned on. The first frame always shows a different orientation. Just time consuming and frustrating. Cannot use the offsets because the 4 frames on my Microtec film holder are not spaced equally apart. 2 are on one side and 2 on the other side. Any comments?
Thanks

I have had continual issues with framing not working correctly in preview. My issue is that vuescan sometimes gets "confused" as to where the crop line starts, with the frame stretching over several images, and no amount of fiddling will fix things . When that happens I just manually scan the frames I want. I don't know if this relates to your issue.

Another continuing irritation is when vuescan reorients the view in preview mode when you move from one frame to another . I have just learned to accept that.

Vuescan is a good application , but these bugs are both dramatic and should not be that hard to fix - unless of course the issues are scanner-specific.

I believe that is a one-man show, and he is successful because the competition is so bad. To put it more positively , it's a good app with limited resources behind it.

Weird. I've had Hamrick email me back personally. What scanner are you using? I'm not having any problems with preview and the actual scan on mine.

I have a canon 9000 (or 9050, don 't remember precisely, it's the model available last Summer)

I have no problems with the scanning, it's just that the preview does not recognize the frames even in auto. Once I adjust I can scan with no problem but I cannot save that information since on the next preview I have to repeat.

Ed doesn't care for flatbed scanners in general. His replies to such can be short or cut and paste answers.

What version of Vuescan do you have? If not the latest you may download that. Warning, Ed doesn't rename the different versions. If you download the new installer named the same as the old installer without renaming it you'll be stuck with the new version when you install it. So rename the new install file when you download it.

Once I adjust I can scan with no problem but I cannot save that information since on the next preview I have to repeat.
Can't you save the setup under File> Save Options? Name it so that you can recognize it and you should be able to bring it up whenever you need too.

I contacted the owner but the response was a standard cut and paste response.

Ed Hamrick, a one man show, is very good about responding to real issues if you have followed his requirements such as using the latest version and attaching the configuration file he requests. I know from first hand experience.

He will commonly just ignore your request if:
1) the answer to your problem is in his detailed instructions
2) you are not using the latest version as he requires
3) you do not attach the required configuration file.
I know this from first hand experience as well.

It appears he will also ignore any compatibility questions that could be answered by downloading and testing the free demo.

I do have the latest Pro version and it is a good software. I just get frustrated with the framing. I do see on the internet that this has been a problem.
