Vuescan DNG files are negative

Hi,

Does anyone know the correct setting to make the negatives that are scanned with Vuescan to be positive when the are imported into PS6. I scan my negative and when I import the files into Photoshops DNG converter they end up being negative instead of a positive image. I

Your question seems a little mixed up on terminology.

- DNG Converter is a standalone application that takes raw files (either native proprietary raw or DNG format) as input and outputs DNG formatted raw files.

- Photoshop CS6 uses the Camera Raw plugin module to render raw files into RGB component form.

- Vuescan can encapsulate both fully processed RGB positives and its own raw format files into DNG file structure.

When you scan negatives, the raw data coming off the scanner is a negative image, which is the 'raw' image to Vuescan. This means you must be looking at the Vuescan raw files, which are Vuescan's raw data before image processing and inversion to an RGB component form. Check that you are outputting Vuescan raw rather than TIFF encapsulated DNG. The latter will give you the positive images you are looking for.

I have the jpg box checked and the raw file box check nothing and raw output = save. What I am trying to say is when the files are imported in the PS6 convertor they appear as a negative and it is hard for me to do the adjustments. When I import my digital camera dng files they appear as a postive which makes it easy for me to adjust before it goes to Photoshops main page. I am trying to do the same thing for my film scans. I like photoshops dng converter.

I figured it out. Save raw file box needs to be checked and save scan needs to be chosen.

That works but you could also have checked Tiff and under Tiff check DNG and gotten the same thing. It comes in handy when you want a DNG file and an unaltered RAW file.
