I read that Vuescan Pro (I have Vuescan (not Pro)) will scan negs as RAW files. Has anyone had any experience with this? I would like to hear more about this before I potentially enter some weird RAW hell.

The so-called RAW from vuescan is not really raw, whatever that means.. I guess.
It's a tiff file that Vuescan can open and other things too which fool with that sort of file.
I like it because I can scan a roll of slides, turn the scanner off to save the bulb, then go back and use the raw files as the source in vuescan, messing with the crops and curves, saving them in various sizes etc.
To me it was worth it, even if some may scoff at the file just being a TIFF.

I believe it is more than "just a TIFF" since you can control all elements of the scan from the file. For example, you can open the RAW file with Vuescan and enable its equivalent of ICE. Be careful with the DNG file, I think I read that some programs that can read DNG cannot read Vuescan's DNG files (Aperture?)
