When I am using Vuescan, I always adjust the colour so that it looks good from preview before the actual scan. After everything is adjusted to look perfect, the resulting files always look different from how it appeared in the preview.
Any of you know what's the problem?

I use Mac

Most folks adjust the resulting scan. But to get things closer set the Preview scan's dpi to a higher value. My theory is that if not given enough pixels to make a correct determination the software can go awry. This will of course increase the preview time.

Axiom, you are introducing a new complexity that will never improve your scan files and has potential for degrading the final result. Understand what comes out of your scanner is nothing more than the raw data of the positions where red, green, and blue light go through the film and register on the sensor. No adjustments impact that. Everything else is software adjustments that your scan driver (Vuescan in your case) make to that raw data by manipulating it in the CPU. This includes if the file is outputted as a positive or negative, color or greyscale, color space, and in your case adjustments made to the color palate. The adjustments you are making to the color palate are things you are doing blind and cannot be reversed.

Make those color palate adjustments with your image editor instead of blindly in Vuescan. Then you can accurately see the impact of your adjustments and undo them if necessary.

All those Vuescan adjustments are there for those who do not use an image editor such as Photoshop or Lightroom and merely want a best efforts file straight from the scanner.

Vuescan speed tip: Use the "scan from preview" selection. This retains the original raw data from the first scan, then applies those software adjustments you want and outputs the scan file. If you do not do this, Vuescan simply repeats the original scan, which may take 2-3 minutes, but produces the same raw data and then applies your software adjustments and outputs the file.

I have been using the "scan from preview" for over 10 years or every since I learned what the scanner itself does and what the scan driver does with software manipulation after the scan.
